Please meet the families involved in the hay farming business with New Horizons Farm, Ltd. Our family started a small scale mixed crop farm almost 40 years ago, where it operates in Southern Alberta. In 1999 the farm introduced timothy to their operation, and within a couple years had great success in growing timothy that it became the number one crop in our operation. The operation started with Vic and Laura Klassen and now includes, a son and daughter and their spouses. This year the third generation plans to get involved with one of the grandsons planning to operate a baler.

Timothy has been successful for New Horizons farm mostly because of the climate where we farm. We farm in a semi arid desert where the average precipitation per year is 9 inches which includes rain and snow. However, because we can add water through pivot irrigation to the crop from the Canadian Rocky Mountains, the crop flourishes. Another advantage the area is the lower humidity which help reap a high quality crop during harvest time. Also, with the addition of irrigation we are not only known for the ability to grown some of the highest quality hay in North America but also some of the lowest sugars in the timothy which is beneficial for the health of the horse.

In 2005 we were introduced to AG International Broker, Inc. from Florida, who sourced hay from many areas where timothy is grown, specifically looking for small square bales for high end performance horses. We started a business relationship by supplying hay to AG International on a small scale. Starting with 20,000 small square bales the first year. The business relationship turned into a wonderful friendship in which we grew together. Today New Horizons Farm, Ltd. produces 500,000 small square bales together with numerous other farms that grow timothy. New Horizons Farm Ltd. offers for sale 1st and 2nd cut timothy and when available and possibly some of the highest quality alfalfa, barley straw and rye straw specifically for horses, but are open to selling these products for other animals as well. The hay we produce has been fed to high end race horses under the care of leading trainers and racing at Gulfstream Park and Tampa Bay Downs in Florida, along with Belmont Park and Saratoga Springs in New York and others.

AG International Brokers, Inc. was established by Anthony Gravett in 1998. As a horse owner , I discovered upon visiting South Florida feed stores that the hay they sold along with the quality of the hay they sold varied greatly week to week. Being frustrated with the hay offered in South Florida, I began utilizing contacts in Alberta Canada and western states to source product. I started out supplying hay to my own horses, to friends who owned horses and to a friend that owned a feed store along with others who were polo players. Within a few years I was supplying hay to over a dozen feed stores from New York to Florida and various stables.

Our mission is to focus on providing dependable, consistent and high quality hay products to our customers year round with the ultimate goal of fostering healthy and better performing equines, resulting in satisfied owners and trainers. Providing a consistent supply of horse quality hay starts by working with farmers to grow and harvest a product that meets the requirements and expectations of the customer in every aspect. The specifications include bale size, bale weight, texture, composition and sugar content. To insure a customer's expectations are met, I personally invest time learning their requirements. I inspect, grade and catalog the hay that is produced and in inventory. Once the inventory inspection is complete I match the product with the customer. Giving the customers what they want is a simple and effective strategy for success.

I owe a debt of gratitude to the many farmers whom I have worked with for years producing and shipping the hay products horse owners and trainers desire. In 2005 AG International joint ventured with New Horizons Farm in Southern Alberta with the goal of working with timothy producers to focus on growing and harvesting large volumes of two string horse hay that would fill a niche in the US hay market. The venture has been a huge success and has grown exponentially over the years along with our friendship with the Klassen family. We complement each other in so many ways.

We are compliant with the USFDA's Foreign Supplier Verification Program requirements and passed our initial audit with flying colors.
